Empathy 3 Ways
Empathy with Self
Self-empathy requires you to notice and acknowledge what is happening in you. Whether you are excited or you make a mistake that leaves you feeling embarrassed. It is an exercise in humility, admitting that you are human and not alone in the human experience. It allows you to integrate aspects of your current and past experiences and doesn’t require reinvention of those experiences.
Empathy with Others
Empathy with others is sensing their emotions and imagining what someone might think or feel. Researchers have identified two types of Empathy. Affective Empathy is the sensations and feelings we get in response to others’ emotions. Cognitive Empathy, sometimes called perspective-taking, refers to our ability to intellectually identify and understand other people’s emotions.
Collective Empathy
It is the feeling of connection and camaraderie when we work together towards a common goal. This type of Empathy benefits your professional life and business outcomes. A collectively empathetic team can see, understand and share from the perspective of each other and customers or clients. It means working together as a team to come up with solutions that meet the needs of everyone involved.
